O'Neil auditioned for Canadian Idol's third season in early 2005, while she was still a high school student. She made it into the top 100 rounds since the judges were impressed by her vocal performance. O'Neil received praise of high quality from her judges. She experienced significant defeats during the Top 10 as well as the Top 9 weeks of the finals after she was placed to the bottom three or bottom two as well as the bottom two.
